Matarromera Pago de las Solanas

Bodega Matarromera, S.L. (1988)
Oenologist: Félix González
Technical director: Alberto Guadarrama
Elaboration: Bodega Matarromera
D.O. Ribera del Duero – España

Mild and damp winter, followed by a spring that brought frosts in April and May. Growth on the vines was very good and within the normal parameters, although the fine weather encouraged the vines to bud early. The temperatures were higher than normal in summer and in general it was reasonably dry and hot. Final ripening slow but balanced.

An exclusive wine made only in excellent years, with grapes from a specific and iconic estate, or pago, Pago de las Solanas, where the bunches are selected and picked manually, grape by grape. This wine is subsequently stored for 21 months in new barrels of French oak from the most prestigious coopers. Intense dark red colour with cherry-red hues, extraordinary intensity and complexity of aromas: very ripe black fruit, cocoa, minerals,
hardwood, spices… Excellent structure of sweet tannins on the palate, breadth, silkiness and volume, balance of fruity flavours and hardwood… Stylish and enduring at the finish.
